Dutch Hood Canopy

Dutch hoods are a classic choice for window or door canopies, characterised by horizontal lines and subtle curved profiles at the edges. These hoods can be customised up to 6000mm wide and 2000mm in projection, and are crafted using custom-bent aluminium extrusions rather than the more common, but less durable, cast riveted corners. (Available for larger customisations on a price-on-ask basis.) The traditional design of Dutch hoods makes them a perfect match for period homes, although they are also strikingly effective in enhancing modern architecture. Canvas is the material of choice for Dutch hoods. As the largest producer of Dutch hoods in Victoria, we offer them in two radius options: 150mm and 300mm. We have successfully installed Dutch hoods on numerous heritage-listed properties across the state and beyond.

Bow Canopy

A bow canopy serves as a stylish addition either above windows or doors. Its radial design instantly adds a unique flair to an entrance or front façade, transforming mundane into striking. Every bow awning is fully customisable and can be crafted to virtually any size. Generally, the height and projection are designed to be half of the width. However, alternative dimensions are available to form flatter or more elliptical shapes, often referred to as elliptical canopies or eyelid canopies. What to consider when buying outdoor blinds

We custom build and fit our outdoor blinds directly from our base of operations in Melbourne. Here are some answers to common questions from customers on our custom outdoor blind build and installations.

What role do you want your outdoor blind to fulfil?
With a variety of options, when it comes to outdoor blinds it is imperative to consider exactly what you’d like to achieve in your space. Are you wanting rain protection? Shade in the warmer months? A dry space over your door or a BBQ area? Perhaps you are looking for additional privacy in your outdoor space. Talking to Clark’s outdoor blinds experts is a good place to start. Discuss your outdoor blind project with our team and we’ll work with you to find the perfect outdoor blind to suit your needs and your outdoor space.
Climate

To ensure you select the blind that meets all of your needs, we need to consider the environment the outdoor blinds will find themselves in and the times of the year you are going to want to be maximising their use. Are you only planning on enjoying the beautiful summer weather or do you love being outdoors all year-round where a waterproof retractable roof system would suit your project better?

Ease of use

Do you envision yourself using this space over different times of the day or just once a day or a few times a week? Does the ease of being able to push a button to extend and retract the outdoor blinds appeal? Perhaps you would like to have the outdoor blind connected to your smart home system. Or perhaps you simply want to manually wind the blinds in and out as you see fit. We always say, if the blinds are easy to use, you will get more value (and more use) from them!

Type of fabric

When considering fabrics for your outdoor blind, it is best to delve back into some of your climate considerations to ensure you can use them as often you’d like. Are you looking for an acrylic semi-waterproof fabric to maximise your outdoor shade OR are you wanting a see-through mesh?

Once we have established the your basic requirements in terms of outdoor blind fabrics, we can turn our attention to the colour selection. After all, your blind’s functionality and ability to cope with your outdoor conditions is critical, but how it looks is something you’re going to have to live with and enjoy. And that’s where our outdoor blind experts can help. We’ve styled countless Melbourne homes with our outdoor blinds and we will ensure the blinds we supply are beautiful and enhance your property’s appeal.

Energy efficiency
Not only can your outdoor blinds enhance your outdoor living space, they can also save you energy by retaining heat in the winter (saving you on heating costs) and providing welcome shade in the hot summer months. Custom built to “Melbourne’s four seasons in a day climate,” Clarks’ outdoor blinds won’t simply look good, they’ll help you save energy too!
Benefits of custom-built canopies
To get exactly what you want without compromise, you cannot beat the custom-built canopies. Benefits include: Aesthetic Appeal: Canopies come in various shapes and styles, such as French canopies, Dutch hoods, wedge canopies, convex canopies, bow awnings, elliptical canopies, and custom-built walkways, allowing you to match the architectural style of your building perfectly. Protection and Comfort: By installing a canopy, you can protect your doorways and windows from the elements like sun, rain, and snow, making entrances more comfortable for visitors and potentially reducing energy costs due to lower heat exposure. Material Choices: You have the option to choose between canvas and PVC coverings. Canvas offers a classic look and is durable under many weather conditions, while PVC is known for its strength and water resistance, making it ideal for harsher climates. Increased Property Value: Enhancing the facade of your building with a sophisticated canopy can also increase its overall market value by improving curb appeal.
How to choose the right canopy?
Consider the Architecture: Select a canopy style that complements your building’s existing architecture. For example: French Canopies are ideal for more traditional or classical architecture. Convex Canopies and Bow Awnings work well with both modern and retro styles. Elliptical Canopies add a contemporary touch. What material should I choose for my canopy. Here are some considerations… Canvas: Offers a softer look and may integrate better with residential environments. It’s also breathable, which can be advantageous in hot climates. PVC: Tends to be more durable and is excellent for areas with frequent rain or snow as it provides superior water resistance. Customisation Options: Custom-built canopies can be tailored not just in size and colour but also in shape and detailing to exactly meet your needs and aesthetic preferences.
